What is Pilonidal Sinus?
A pilonidal sinus is a small opening or tunnel in the skin, usually found in the cleft between the buttocks.
It commonly develops when hair and skin debris become trapped under the skin.
Some people have no symptoms for a long time, while others develop pain, swelling, redness or discharge. Infection can result in a painful abscess.
Treatment depends on whether the pilonidal sinus is simple, infected or recurrent. Persistent or repeatedly infected disease may require a procedure or surgery.
