Fissure medical treatment

What is Fissure?

An anal fissure is a small tear in the lining of the anus. Although the tear may be small, it can cause considerable pain, particularly during bowel movements.

Patients commonly describe sharp or burning pain during or after passing stool. Bright red blood may also be noticed on toilet paper or on the surface of the stool.

Anal fissures are commonly associated with hard stools and constipation, although repeated diarrhoea and other conditions may also contribute.

Many fissures improve with appropriate medical treatment and better bowel habits. Chronic fissures that do not improve may require further medical, procedural or surgical treatment.
